THE BRIEF
Acorn Toys were looking for a logo for their new bricks and mortar shop selling traditional toys and games. Having achieved success with selling their products online, they wanted to open a community led high street shop where people could come along and play with the toys before purchasing. They wanted to create a community feeling based around modern toys made with traditional materials such as with wood and with less plastic. They also needed stickers go give out, some clothing designs plus some tissue / wrapping paper for sales.
THE SOLUTION
One of the most popular toy puzzles you can do is a jigsaw and I saw the pieces as people coming together, much like the community the owners wanted to create. I started looking at jigsaw piece shapes and how best to form the acorn into a simple puzzle. I was thinking how fun it would be if this logomark could also be tuned into a mini puzzle game in the shop too, maybe as a piece of merchandise or a giveaway. I complimented this acorn logomark with slightly brighter pastel colours and the word “acorn” was hand drawn to show a playful and natural typeface. The acorn logomark was used for the stickers and broken apart for the complimentary pattern. The logo was printed onto work shirts and used for printed literature such as flyers and product brochures.
