THE BRIEF
Julia and her sister Valentina established Sabor de España in the southern region of Spain. Their business focuses on offering organic honey and aims to expand its reach by building a trustworthy brand. They are dedicated to delivering high-quality honey-based products and ensuring fair treatment for their farmers, production staff, and (of course) their diligent bees, who tirelessly produce this exquisite golden nectar.
Organic honey brands tend to evoke traditional images of quaint countrysides but Julia and Valentina wanted to break that mould of honey packaging with a vibrant and fun identity, something that could be marketed to all ages and stand out on the supermarket shelf.
THE SOLUTION
Many organic honey brands tend to use very traditional designs patterns that don’t always set the brands apart from the competitors. I had the opportunity to shake the industry up a bit with a mascot led design that would be colourful and make organic products more accessible rather than just premium. Inspired by the Spanish flag, I drew an untraditional version of a bee mascot with the colours of Spain in its wings. I paired this with a fairly chunky but curved typeface to match the hand-drawn shapes of the mascot. I also nestled a blob of honey inside the tilde of the ñ and created a pattern for merchandise and outer packaging such as a tin. The logo was designed to be a fun and bold alternative to many organic honey brands that you find in the supermarket and to appeal to all ages with its fun and approachable style.
